Organized in the mid- 1970's, the Pierre Junior Shooting Club has a rich tradition of providing quality gun safety instruction and marksmanship training to the youth of the Pierre/Ft. Pierre area.
Gun safety instruction is the main emphasis of our program, and it prepares the youth for the South Dakota Game Fish and Park's HuntSafe program. We believe that through instruction and hands-on participation in class, a basis for the continuation of shooting sports, hunting and prevention of gun accidents is achieved.
The secondary part of our program is the teaching of marksmanship skills. This is first learned through our bb gun class, and then continues with older youth in our air rifle and air pistol classes. Youth have a chance to participate in competitive shooting matches in each of these disciplines.
Shooting sports are something that can be enjoyed by everyone regardless of age, gender or athletic ability. Our shooters have gone on to compete on the national level, as well as in college.
